Since updating to OS X I can not download pictures from my SD card

Can you tell me please, what exactly happens and goes wrong when you try to download a picture from the SD card now?

when I put card it it does nothing. before upgrade, the Iphoto would come up and I could load

If you click on Finder, do you see the SD card in the list of devices on the left?

I have tried that dozens of times. It does not show in finder. It shows remote disc but nothing on it

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R.
  3. Turn on your Mac.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys immediately after you hear the startup sound.
  5. Hold these keys until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for a second time.
  6. Release the keys.
