DMC-ZS40 . When I zoom out the side of lens housing shows, part of the view is dark. When I zoom in it goes away.

camera is approx 3 yrs old. Was not dropped to my knowledge

Hi, the one thing about this camera I don't like is it has a nylon gear super tiny and they run against a metal tooth gear. Eventually they strip out and they create situations like this.That tiny gear needs to be replaced thats all. But this needs to be done by a local camera repair shop because there is a lot to take apart to get to that part.Its a repair that will cost about $50.00 or a bit higher for this one.You could also take it to Best But and drop it off but that would take about two weeks to get it back as they send it out for repair.In any case, I will stick with you until this is complete.Please rate my service thus far.Also it is the only way I am credited for my time and expertise with you.Once you rate, I will be notified and will add your question to my priority list so you can reach me anytime until this problem is solved.Then you can reach me by simply replying to this message anytime.Thank youSincerelyTech Michael
