Hi. My name is*****'m a camera repair technician with almost 30 years in the business and I'll be glad to help you with your question today. Most all DSLR's need a lighting level with an aperture of f8 or greater. Lower light levels can prevent th AF from working properly. Some cameras have a built in AF assist beam that will help in smaller spaces like a living room but anything greater may need to be focused manually.

Soooo....what is the setting in the menu that I can use to stop this? It will go in/out/in/out. Very annoying!

I lost our chat...I'm trying to do 3 things at once. Did you see my note about lens etc?
Expert:  Rick replied 1 year ago.
Sorry about the delay. This may also be a problem with the lens. If it focuses correctly throughout the full range under normal lighting conditions, then the lens is ok. Auto ISO may help but you need to keep an eye on the read-outs and make sure the aperture setting stays above f8.

Just a note to see if I can be of any further assistance? Rick
