Customer Question

For Photography specialist -
I just left a Camera Expo. All I saw was old cameras, old lenses, old lights but hoards of people. Am I missing something? I'm interested in what's current. Are these lenses compatible with anything current? I'm sure some must be.
Do people buy old cameras, why?
I'm not bashing just figuring out what opportunity for knowledge I might be missing.
Also one more question - large/medium format cameras are used for what exactly? Thanks!!

Yes people still use those lenses for other cameras and film is not dead either. People buy old stereo equipment and all kinds of things they love it. Large and medium format cameras are like higher MB in digital cameras the larger the film the higher the quality of the picture. The main advantage of large format, film or digital, is higher resolution. A 4×5 inch image has about 16 times the area, and thus 16× the total resolution, of a 35 mm frame.

Camera expos are for traditionalists, I can learn from them just looking through the old stuff.

With the huge MPs available today, large format is used for what? Print? would you notice a difference vs. a high MP DSLR? Obviously but I'm missing the application. Thanks Mike!

A large format film camera is still higher quality than the best digital camera but even digital cameras have what is called "full frame" that means the sensor is bigger as big as an old film "frame". Digital "pixels" quality may bypass the film "pixels" but there will always be people who say they will never be the same. Do you think these would look the same if shot with a digital camera? Maybe
