Sorry what is the exact model camera a and Mac? How is it connected to the Mac exactly what kind of cable?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Hi Mike. My camera is a Sony HDR- HC3. HDV 180i. I am connecting it with a sony
Cord that fits in USB port of the Mac. The computer is Retina 5k. 27" late 2015 with iMovie 10.1. And OS X el captan 10.11.4
The camara is not compatible w this version of Mac and iMovie but I keep reading that there is a drive that I could load to make it work.
I have years of tapes that I would really like to make into movies. My mom just passed away and I am trying to make a movie for her memorial service.

Hi Mike. I downloaded the Play memories for Mac. The program installed and recognized my photos and videos that were already on my computer. It does NOT however recognize my camera. I also can not manually copy video to the computer. The only USB select options I have are Memory Stick. The Mac does not recognize the camcorder
Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
You don't see Mass Storage or USB mode?
Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
Right sorry Memory Stick is what you should choose. You don't see the memory stick on the Desktop?
Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
It will be called NO NAME or UNTITLED icon on the computer desktop. I can connect by remote and troubleshoot this for you.
Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
Select the first icon in the Dock, the face (Finder), then go to the top left of your screen to Finder / Preferences / General and check all boxes under Show these items on the Desktop. Then tell me if you see the memory stick.
