Hi Jim,

Even if it is seems stuck, gently push only at the base of the flash (near the hot shoe) with your thumb until it pops out.

If it seems to be stuck fast, try gently levering it with a fine screwdriver.

Gently levering? Should I also try moving the thumbwheel again?

You don't need to move the thumbwheel, however if the flash appears stuck fast and will not slide off when pushed with your thumb, try carefully wedging a fine screwdriver at the front of the hot show to help slide it out.
