I have an Optura 40 that I last used about 10 years ago. I just got it out, purchased a new battery, put in a tape and now I can't remove the tape. Can you help? I'm perplexed.

There is, unfortunately, no easy way out of this. Some things to try:

1. turn it Off. Leave it Off for over 1 hour. Turn On again, hold down EJECT for 30 seconds.

2. if that doesn't work, turn it On again after a few minutes Off, while, and after, holding down the EJECT. And keep holding it down for at least 60 seconds. Release EJECT, then immediately press EJECT again and hold it down while wiggling your finger or thumb (and the button) around.

After which, the tape can be removed if it's valuable to you, but destructively to the camera, quite easily.

But to get the tape out *and* not destroy the camcorder, you may need quite expensive service-repair services.
