A Nikon telephoto lens snapped off my D810. The lens is fine

Customer Question

A Nikon telephoto lens snapped off my D810. The lens is fine but the mount on the body of the camera is broken. The metal ring is gone and a small piece of the plastic around it also broke off. Can this be repaired and replaced and if it can will it be worth it? Or should I just get a new camera?

Hi. My name is*****'m a camera repair technician with over 20years in the business and I'll be glad to help you with your question today.

The camera is repairable but it will require a new mirror cage / front standard. This is a $200 part and should be replaced at an authorized Nikon repair facility. There are a few located throughout the country but the 2 main facilities are located on either coast. Below is a link to Nikons support site to get you started. If I can be of further help, please ask.

Thanks Rick. Good to know. Thought it might be the end of the camera!

The repair may not be cheap but it will definitely be less than a new camera.

Just a note to see if I can be of any further assistance?
