I put in a thumb drive with a lot of pictures to upload over night and in the morning, screen was black and it won't turn on

Anything is possible, but it is more likely a coincidence. I would unplug it for an hour or so and then plug it back in. This is the only reset the device has. If it doesn't work after that, then I would say yes, the hardware has failed - but I don't think that uploading a large number of pictures could be the direct cause.
