Pentax K50. Charged battery, tried a menu factory reset.

Customer Question

Pentax K50. Charged battery, tried a menu factory reset. Memory card installed and formatted in camera. Turn on, tried manual and auto. Press shutter, seems to take a picture. Take a second and mirror fails to return. Remove and reinstall battery seems ready to take a picture, the mirror resets. After first picture camera reports no image. Tried other lenses same results. Tried cleaning contacts, no joy.

Hi Ed,

First, try installing the latest firmware in case there is a software glitch:

If that doesn't help then the problem is likely mechanical, and the mirror mechanism will need to be checked by a camera repair tech.

I checked and the firmware is not the latest. I will update and try. If not I can get a new K 50 for less than $300 and that might be preferable to a repair.

Ok, let me know how it goes, or if you need anything else.
