Take out the card. On the side of the card is a small white switch which locks the card. Is it in the 'Locked' position?

Let me know.

Ok, I will need just a little more information.

The error has now changed. Was the card lock on originally?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no, still says memory card locked, when you first turn it on it flashes card locked on screen then disappears.
Expert:  Steve G. replied 1 year ago.

What size (in MB or GB) is the card?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
2GB

Also tried 8GB still says memory card error
Expert:  Steve G. replied 1 year ago.

I don't think it will work with an 8Gb but it should with a 2Gb

Did the seller of the camera indicate that it was in good working order?

Ok, can you do a full format of the card (to FAT32 format) in your computer? Then give it a try.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
formatted the card to FAT32, stiii doesn't work
Expert:  Steve G. replied 1 year ago.

Ok. Then either the card or the camera has to be faulty. I was researching and it does appear to be a problem with this camera reading some types of memory card.

The SD card is a common card. Every camera uses one these days. Can you beg, borrow or steal another card to try?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
tried other cards, it is the same with all cards I have tried. Except I put a converter disk with my phone memory card in it and it worked so what is the deal?
Expert:  Steve G. replied 1 year ago.

I am not sure. We have lots of camera experts here, I am going to opt out of this question which will allow those other experts to help you.

Do not rate the answer as this will slow down the process.

Hold on please.

Hi,

The connections in the slot may be worn from age or even more likely covered with a thin coating of residue or dust blocking full contact. If you have not already done so, clean a single card (contact metal) with alcohol, leave it "lightly" wet and work it in and out of the slot, periodically wiping it when withdrawn. If available, you can also use canned compressed air to blow out the slot.

Please keep in mind that my diagnosis & solutions provided are directly dependent on the accuracy of your description of the problem. As with any "do it yourself" fixes, success is a "team effort", since I can't see or touch the camera, and relies on the customer's manual dexterity and ability to follow the instructions well.
