I have a Canon Vixia HV40 camcorder, and am connecting it

Customer Question

I have a Canon Vixia HV40 camcorder, and am connecting it with an HDMI cable to a video converter box, then thru a fire wire cable to my laptop, where I am grabbing the video stream. When I press DISP. on the left side of the camera, just the HDV video is displayed excellently but I cannot get rid of the red flashing image of a tape with a slash across it, which I think is telling me I don't have a tape in the camera (I'm not recording on the camera so don't need a tape). Is there a way to get rid of that flashing warning image? I tried turning off the warning messages but that didn't do it.

Hi, thank you for contacting JustAnswer.com. My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

Simple: Try putting a blank tape into the camera's tape drive.

You can have the tape be write-protected perhaps. But even if it's not being used, the tape should be there, in order to make the 'no tape' warning go away, I guess.
