Customer Question

I have a Cannon Power Shot ELPH 300 HS Camera on which I have photos but have not downloaded them to my computer. I am having great problems doing that on my Apple computer. I got error messages when trying to install the software, and was asked to use a disk with greater capacity for downloading files I presume, and inserted a 700 GB disk into the drive, but nothing functioned. I contacted Apple for assistance, n but the learned that the cable from the camera to the computer had three connectors and no USB adapter. Now I'm totally left "out in the cold". What can I do to download my collection of photos?Thank you for your assistance.Christopher ********

I'm sorry about the issue. What's your Mac OS X version, i.e., 10.6, 10.7, 10.8, etc.?

Do you mean you do not have a USB cable that is able to connect from the camera to the computer?

Is there a memory card slot on your computer (takes the memory card out from the camera and see if it fits if there is a memory card slot on your computer)?

Can I provide you the website link where you can purchase the USB cable online for your camera?

Please reply at the box below. Thank you.

First, I realized that I had apparently misplaced the correct cable for connecting the camera to the back of the computer (IMac with version 10.11.1 OS X El Capitan) -- all very up-to date! Therefore, I went to Small Dog Electronics (a local Apple store here in far away VT) and bought the correct replacement cable (a 3-ft Mini USB 2.0 Cable - A to Mini B). Now I am able to make that connection! I again tried to install the software from the CD provided by Cannon. But again I received a message telling me that: "To Begin insert a blank disc. This disc disc will be burned with the contents of CannonDC830M.fpbf. You need a disc with a capacity of at least 100.6 MB."
I have such a disc capable of handling 700MB; however, to use that I need to remove the original Cannon disc! Then, I do not have any information on my computer that is recognized for downloading anything. I have just a new, blank CD waiting for some kind of instructions! So here I am again, in a hole!
And all of that, according to the printed instructions, is before I am to make the direct connection of the camera to the computer, which I now have the capability on doing with the newly purchased cable.
I wish someone could help me. -- Chris

Don't try to install the camera's CD disk.

With the camera turned on and connected to the computer, does the camera's screen show anything different?

Open Finder, then do you see the camera device on the left?

Open Finder, then open Applications, then open Image Capture, does it detect the camera?
