How to unlock my memory card

Customer Question

How to unlock my memory card

Hello my name is***** look forward to assisting and am very sorry to hear that you are having this problem.

Remove the card from the camera and look at the side.

There should be a tiny switch on the side of the card, move it back and forth a few times then leave it on the unlock side.

If this did not work, please come back and let me know what happened when you tried it by clicking on reply to expert so we can continue.

If it did work, please don’t forget to leave a positive rating by clicking the stars/smileys - it is greatly appreciated.

What happened when you tried it?

got the same message memory card error
Expert:  Freddy M. replied 1 year ago.

You did not say you were getting a memory card error before, you asked how to unlock the card. A memory card error could mean you have a failing part that needs to be replaced. What exactly does it say? Is it just "Card Error"?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it just says 'memory card error'
Expert:  Freddy M. replied 1 year ago.

Ok, do you have another memory card you can test with so we can rule that out?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I tried a brand new one last nite and still got the same message
Expert:  Freddy M. replied 1 year ago.

Ok that rules out the card as the cause which is not a good sign. How old is the camera? Have you tried cleaning the slot yet? If over a year old, did you get an extended warranty?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
how do you clean the slot?
Expert:  Freddy M. replied 1 year ago.

You would need to use a cleaning kit like this:
