Customer Question

I have 1D MARK IV. I was using NEXUS pad (ANDROID) to monitor and control my camera. One day I could not view photos through USB mini connector. It looks like there is no USB output signal. Is there a way to repair this through reloading the firmware? I don't think this is a hardware problem. I use DSLR CONTROLLER PROGRAM.

Hi, thank you for contacting My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

Are you sure the mini USB connector on the Nexus pad is OK?

Try connecting the camera to a computer, and verify that it can be recognized by the computer (and, if a Windows computer, that it can be seen as an icon in the

If the mini USB port on the camera is what is defective, you have to update the firmware through it, so I don't think you can fix the camera that way. I advise sending the camera for repair to Canon Repair Servicing:

They have a good reputation from all I have heard. (You might want to call 1-800-OK-CANON and get an estimate on the repair cost, first, in case your camera is old and not valuable to you... the repair might cost more than you would wish to pay, is all I am suggesting, and getting an estimate first can be useful.)

Good luck with the problem. (PS: have you tried scrubbing out the mini-USB port with a clean dry (used) toothbrush? then trying the cable in it again? dubious, but it might just get it working.)

USB connector on NEXUS is Micro connector instead of Mini and NEXUS pad is brand new. All of the suggestions you made are efforts toward localizing the problem which I have tried. I wanted to keep an option to send my camera to the service center as my last option. Firmware updates can be done by downloading from CANON site, which mine is the latest (1.1.4). USB driver maybe defective and may have to be reloaded. This has to be done at the service center. So, I appreciate your effort but I have not leaned anything new and everything is still same.

I regret that I cannot work magic through good advice. And I confess that I am often blamed for not having magic advice to offer.

If your Canon camera is really broken, I cannot advise you to do anything better than to send it for repair.

Have you tried scrubbing out the mini-USB jack on the camera with a clean dry brush?
