My Canon G12 is approx 4 to 5 years old. My viewfinder

Customer Question

my Canon G12 is approx 4 to 5 years old.
My viewfinder recently started displaying a horizontal split screen image...roughly top 1/3 of viewfinder is displaying the bottom of the menu or photograph being framed.
The bottom 2/3 of the screen is displaying the top of the menu or photograph.
Sometimes, the upper third of color resolution appears pastel or black/white,
bottom 2/3 appears to be color.
Photographs taken appear to be normal.
Is there a hard reset for this camera?
Is my viewfinder trying to go out?
If so, what is the typical repair/costs for viewfinder replacement?
Everything else on camera appears to be working normal.

Hello my name is***** look forward to assisting and am very sorry to hear that you are having this problem. I want to warn you that it is possible you will need to replace a part in order to fix this. There are a few different things that can cause this and a couple different parts so we would need to troubleshoot to find out for sure. When you transfer the pictures to the computer do they have the lines on them?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
No, the pictures are fine
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
just the viewfinder
Expert:  Freddy M. replied 2 years ago.
That would mean it is just the screen then, was it dropped or anything recently? A loose connection to the screen can cause this but only if something like it being dropped has happened.

Thank you but I am the only one that uses the camera and it has not been dropped
I will have to take it in to be serviced

Ok if it has not been dropped it would mean the viewfinder is starting to fail and needs to be replaced. The part normally costs between $40 and $50. The labor would be an hour at the shops rate (usually between $65 and $75). If you have any questions at all click on reply to expert and let me know. If not please don’t forget to leave a positive rating for my help - it is greatly appreciated. Please note you are rating me only not this site or your Canon.
