Hello. My name is***** can help you with your question. Unlike with many cameras, there is nothing mechanical in this camera that can cause a problem like you're experiencing. There are only a couple of things that can – either there is a complete hardware failure of mainboard in the camera, or there is something wrong with the battery or batteries. If the batteries have ever been exposed to moisture, it's very possible that they are no longer working. Also if the batteries were stored for a long period of time without being used and their rechargeable batteries, they would not be usable after a certain amount of time usually at least several months. If neither of these is the case let me know and we can go from there. Is it still covered under warranty? Because if it's not the battery then it would really only be cost-effective to fix if it is under warranty.

Just checking to see if you've had any luck with the Sony camera. If you need additional assistance, please let me know. I would appreciate a moment of your time to rate my level of service at your convenience. Thank you. Mike

Thank you for your response. I am sorry that I have not gotten back to you sooner. I was waiting for fresh batteries. I am under pressure to download some pictures for work. I guess I can use the memory card for that and I will check if I have the adapter for the computer. The camera is inconsistent in operation and I guess I need to determine if I can get it operational. The camera is not under warrantee and I am not in a good position to purchase one similar to this. OK, let me update you in clear fashion with more facts.
1. After I signed up with you, I tried cleaning the battery contacts. Wow, the camera came on immediately. I thought it was fixed:).
2. The CONSISTENT problem is that the camera does not always initialize. What I mean by initialize is that when opened, SOME electronic circuits are turned on. (i.e. the small power light will illuminate and the switch to advance/return to picture frames will have a slight sound), however, the view screen does not ALWAYS come on. The camera is dormant with slight sound when the two buttons are pressed. In proper operational mode, that sound only comes on when the camera is started. HOWEVER, the sound is SHORT when the camera is not operating right. The sound (I would call it a start up sound) is longer when the camera works correctly.
3. I need to mention that the camera starts when a COVER is slid (no button is pressed when operating properly). Perhaps the sliding cover is a problem? However, when slid some of the electronics start as expressed above.
4. With the inconsistent starts, how do I get the camera to start? At times, in the normal way, when the cover is slid. Other times, if I keep pushing the power/advance frame button, the camera MAY then start.
5. A few days ago, and I do this to just keep testing for proper operation, the camera would come on 4 - 6 times in a day over a period of time. Today I cannot get the camera to work with fresh, fully charge battery.
6. Room temperature does not seem to be a factor. Camera is in a consistent normal temperature range.Thank you for responding. I hope there is a simple answer.

I wrote you on August 12 and never received an answer. I am very dissatisfied. Especially reference about warranty. Of course if it was under warranty I would go to the manufacturer first.

I apologize, but since you didn't get back to me for over 2 weeks the question was no longer on my open question list and I had no way of knowing that you had responded 2 weeks later. I tried checking on the status of your question by asking you a few days after if you needed additional assistance. Since you have had good results with cleaning the battery contacts, you may want to take that one step further by using a battery contact cleaner which will dissolve any film that may still be present on the contacts. Unfortunately, there is no simple solution to this. As I clearly said in my response, if it is not under warranty then there is not a cost effective fix for it. I cannot change what the truth is, I can only deliver it to you. I'm assuming that when you asked your question you wanted accurate and honest information. Here is a link to the battery cleaner Mike
