The lens cover closes itself when the lens retracts when it is powered off.
Is it not doing this?

The round, silver piece that encases the shutter is completely off the camera. It does not appear to be something that will just snap back on easily. Do you know if/how I can put it back on? I can send a photo of the piece that has come off if that would help.

ok, if it has not actually broken off, you can try to clip it back in.
Try to align the legs of it with the front of the camera and tell me if you can push and clip it into the camera please.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
I tried that, but no luck. I could push harder, but I'm afraid of breaking it which is why I posted here...
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
ok, it would clip it with not too much force which means its broken off in the camera itself.
Fixing this on this type of camera is not an option sorry, as they do not see this piece seperatly as it requires a complete dismantle of the camera to get the broken pieces out then to put this in. It would exceed the value of the camera.
But you should be able to glue it on, so that ti remains in place.

There appears to only have one "leg". Do you know if that should be inserted towards the top of the camera or the bottom?
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
It should also have some smaller ones, but it will fit into the hole you see on the front of the camera where the Lens unit is
So look at the front for the hole, from memory I believe its at 2 oclock, but you would see where its going to fit exactly.
I couldn't see in your photo as it was too dark, but there should be the hole for it there.
