Customer Question

My Olympus Tough after power off displays the compass date/time plus longitude/latitude headings. Tried all the settings, GPS on and off.

Hi, thank you for contacting My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question. The compass can in fact be turned On even when the camera is Off. This allows you to use the compass at times when you are not using the main camera functions... when in other words, you are using the compass function and not much else.So you would need to turn the compass Off first, then turn Off the camera, to get the compass to be Off when the camera is Off. I am not sure of the details, but I think it's the same for the longitude/latitude. To get the date/time to be Off, you might have to remove the batteries too.If you need specific instructions, let me know. Thanks.

I will be trying this later today, I could use more details on how to turn the compass off while the camera is on, didn't find a simple setting to turn it off while the camera was on.

I admit, upon inspection of the documentation, I do not find any mention of turning Off the GPS nor the date/time display etc. Perhaps the model is designed to have those always available.(But, a thought: have you ever turned the camera Off, with a certain display on it, then moved to a different geographical location, and seen whether it is just displaying the 'last position' status while it was On, rather than the current real-time.) Let me know how it goes, please. Thanks.
