Hi,

Is the image dark all of the time, including menus and playing back previously taken video (from before the problem started) or just when you are trying to take a new video?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Only when trying to record new video... Picture is barely there, almost all black but you hear audio

Hi,

The fact that you are still able to see icons, menus and view previously taken photos correctly, unfortunately indicates that there is a problem with the ccd (the light sensitive chip that produces the image) or the connection to it. The only repair is to replace the CCD. While your camera was not on the list of Sony cameras for free repair, (all others from that vintage were) I am sorry to say that, Sony discontinued the program in December 2009, the information at the link below does fully explain the problem and tells how Sony and other manufacturers handled it. Since more and more newer models have the identical problem the info may give you some leverage with Sony. You are the 3rd person in a one month period, with a Sony camera with this problem. Please keep in mind that my diagnosis & solutions provided are directly dependent on the accuracy of your description of the problem. As with any "do it yourself" fixes, success is a "team effort", since I can't see or touch the camera, and relies on the customer's manual dexterity and ability to follow the instructions well.
