Hi. My name is***** own a small camera repair business and am a technician with over 25 years in the business. I'll be glad to help you.
Nikon cameras have a weak spot. There is a ceramic resistor under the front cover, right where the F-stop ring couples to the camera. This breaks very easily with a slight bump and requires replacement. This only affects lenses with an f-stop ring. DX lenses will still work. This really isn’t a user serviceable problem and should be repaired by a qualified technician. Below is a link the Nikon website to locate a repair center near you.
