Hi we have a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD101 and when the charger

Resolved Question:

Hi we have a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD101 and when the charger was on it something flashed and now it's dead. We tested the power cord and it's fine. Our problem is we have a lot of the little DVD's with family footage but never finalized them because we would just play them through the camera to the TV, and now we can't do that and ,of course, they won't play in a regular DVD because they were never finalized. Do you have any suggestions? Is it worth sending the camera in for repair? Or is there another way to finalize the discs? Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thank You! Frank Catrambone

Hi Frank, the most likely cause of this power problem is due to a defect in ribbon cable which connects charge and battery contacts to main board. This cable will need to be replaced to restore normal operation on this model. The cable is approx. $50.00,plus labor to install,(kind of invasive procedure). You can contact Sony factory service, located in Laredo,Tx at(NNN) NNN-NNNNor take to a Radioshack store to forward to their repair facility for a repair estimate. However, repair most likely may not be economical,I would suspect at least $200-$250.I will suggest,as your recorded memories are very special to you I'm sure,to check for a used DVD101 on Ebay or similiar site. This ill allow you to finalize and preserve your memories, and will be more cost effective. Here is on that I found.....

Hope this helps.

If you have any other questions please ask....Best to you,Joe
