i have a Canon VIXIA HFS11. it is not uploadint video onto my computer when i plug it in and try ti import the footage. here are the steps i have taken:

1) made sure the camera was plugged into the power adapter.
2) plugged the camera into my computer via USB cord.
3) turned on camera and pressed the review button.
4) selected the correct connection type then waited for thumbnails.

after it said the thumbnails were created, on my computer it said "importing pictures and videos" but then when it said that was done it said "no pictures or videos were found on the device."

now, i was able to find the pictures by searching through the folders manually, but i was unable to find the videos. i can play back the video just fine on the actual camera, but i just can't seem to get them to import onto my computer.

i have tried everything. please help!

Thank you for using just answer.com! I may be able to help you, but I need some additional information. I need to know:

What kind of operating system you are using (Windows Vista, XP, 7, or Mac)

The program you are using to import the pictures. (The Windows Picture viewer etc., or a third-party program)

Does you camera have an SD card? (The little square shaped block)

Does your computer have an SD reader?

Once I have this information, I'm fairly certain I can help you out!

I look forward to your reply!

okay,

1) i am using Windows XP, (on a Dell laptop if that helps).

2) well, i'm not sure, i think just whatever program that xp imports all photos and videos with. (remember, i found the photos, it's the video i can't find)

3) yes, it has a SD card. a 32GB one.

4) yes, it does, and i've tried inserting the card but still nothing.

i hope you can help!

Thank you for the information, it helps a great deal!

I just wanted to touch base with you really fast to let you know that I am still on the case. Currently, I have a couple of ideas, but I want to double-check my research before I get your hopes up. I should have a couple of things for you to try shortly.

Thank you for your patience, and for allowing me to assist you. As soon as I have just enough research completed, I will reply with an answer; with a little luck, and some know-how, we can get those videos for you!

Ok, I have devised several solutions for you, but I must admit the process is more complex that I had originally thought, so I have created a comprehensive set of tools and guides that will help you master your camcorder and all of it's amazing functions. If I were to try and walk you through it, there would be a lot of confusion, but the guides will help you tremendously.

The first thing you'll need to do is download and install the software made for this camcorder; it's call Zoom Browser EX and it is for stills (photos), and you can find it at

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=269&modelid=19063#DownloadDetailAct

You will have to scroll down and click "Accept" to begin the download. Once you have downloaded and installed the software, you'll have to restart the computer.

When the computer restarts, double click the Zoom Browser EX (it should show up in your list of installed programs, or on your desktop)

_____________________________________________________________________________

Here is the guide for using Zoom Browser (Photos)

The instructions can be found here; I recommend saving a copy of these and all other manuals to your desktop for easy reference.

http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/1/0300003281/01/zb65-en.pdf

(Pages 6-8 give you an overview of what to expect, and page 9 is a good place to start when transferring files, but page 11 shows how to do it with a card reader)

The Zoom Browser software is going to be your best bet for getting images (It's a pretty easy to use software package)

______________________________________________________________________________

This software package is for retrieving and editing video for your Canon; it's called ImageMixerTM 3 SE (Video editing)

You'll have to download and install it as well; just like the Zoom Browser; you can find the software below.

http://www.pixela.co.jp/oem/canon/e/imagemixer3_se_canon/en_download.html

(Scroll to the bottom for the download button)

Here is the Frequently Asked Questions for ImageMixerTM 3 SE

http://www.pixela.co.jp/oem/canon/e/imagemixer3_se_canon/qa.html

______________________________________________________________________________

This is the entire Vixia HF S11 Camcorder Instruction Guide (I posted it just for your reference, and it may have other tips about what not to do when transferring files, such as not having the camcorder plugged in AND using a USB cord simultaneously; the USB provides power)

http://downloads.canon.com/cpr/software/video/VIXIA_HFS11_IM_N_EN.pdf

Here is the manual for the Digital Video Software

http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/6/0300002486/01/dvsdv33-wn-en.pdf

______________________________________________________________________________

I know this is a lot of information to digest, so I am going to simplify as best I can.

Download and Install Zoom browser for capturing stills (photos) (restart computer)

Download and install ImageMixerTM 3 SE for videos (restart computer)

To get the videos, open ImageMixer and it will search for your videos either through USB or SD card (it recommends using the SD card for larger files)

Save copies of each manual on your desktop for your reference in case you get stuck. I would also add each link to your list of favorites for further reference.

I have spent a great deal of time (almost 3 hours) compiling all of these files and manuals for your convenience, which is why my reply took so long, but as it is a complex camcorder with a lot of facets, it is going to take some effort on your part to understand that material, as it goes beyond an "easy" answer.

I hope you find this information and guidance useful, as it is everything there is regarding your camcorder and there is nothing else to add; this information sheet is comprehensive. Good luck in mastering your camcorder; it has a LOT of really neat features that you can discover with a little patience and some practice. If you found this information useful, please click "accept" so that I may be paid for my services. I also appreciate bonuses, and positive feedback as well! Thank you for using Just Answer, and have a great day!

P.S. If you ever need help with this, or another question, please feel free to ask!
