I am in the process of adopting a beautiful little Beagle
I am in the process of adopting a beautiful little Beagle mix who is currently living with a foster family nearby. Once my application is processed, which should be today or tomorrow, I can choose to bring her home whenever I like. The question is when? She has an appointment for being spayed next week. I wasn't sure if I should try to bring her home before she is spayed and help her recover, or if I should let the foster handle it and wait until she is fully recovered. If I bring her home before then she can adjust to my house a bit and I can help her through the recovery process myself - perhaps building the bond during this process? Also, she's pretty attached to her foster right now, and I worry that if I wait longer she won't want to leave. But also I don't want her to associate me and my home with surgery and be afraid of me. I also don't know how long I should wait until after the surgery? Should I give a week? Two weeks? More time? The other thing to note is that this dog has been abused in the past so I really want to make the decision that is best for her. I don't want to add any more trauma into her life and I want to create a safe space with safe humans. So, at a loss at what to do.... I was wondering if any vets had any advice on this matter? … read more
