Ok great

Hello,

Interesting question. From a holistic veterinarians point of view, there are all sorts of botanical extracts, chinese herbs, etc...that could be worth trying.

However, is there really any clinical research to suggest any of it actually helps? No

The most common heart condition in dogs is when the mitral valve is not working like it used to. I can't imagine a supplement being of benefit to the actual mitral valve function.

So, I would be less inclined to suggest any type of supplement. Science Diet sells a prescription diet called H/D, that might be worth reviewing.

Keeping a pet at ideal body weight, not excessive salt, and maybe, the extra L-carnitine and taurine could be useful.

Hope that information helps

Did my answer come thru okay. Intermittently, the system has an error and answer doesn't get received?

thank you!

Hope everything works out okay.

Just FYI:

When a pet has a fairly loud heart murmur, make sure to have chest x-rays taken every 6 months to yearly to keep track of the heart size.

When the left atrium chamber of the heart gets really big, it is advisable to start a heart drug called pimobendan, which makes the heart contract better. We like to start it when the left atrium is really big but the pet has not gone in to heart failure yet.

Good Luck

She is on that and Enalapril and Lasix. She went into heart failure because of a ruptured cord. We got her to the hospital right away. She responded to the Lasix instantly...

They give her 12-18 months.

Understood. That I cannot comment without my own examination, review of x-rays, etc...
