I would do exactly as you're planning. In the great majority of cases, intact males who bleed from their penis are suffering from acute prostatitis and castrating them can be curative. Less commonly, the prostatitis doesn't abate after castration and a couple of weeks of an antibiotic that penetrates into his prostate gland well such as trimethoprim/sulfa or enrofloxacin will be needed.
