My 13-year-0ld spayed female cat has suddenly stopped

Customer Question

My 13-year-0ld spayed female cat has suddenly stopped eating. She will eat small amounts of canned food, but refuses the Meow Mix she has always eaten. She's had some hair loss and scratches her head on the furniture. She also has done quite a bit of lapping at her coat. She acts normally otherwise--jumping up on her favorite chair, purring loudly, etc.

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you with your wee one today.

How long has this been going on?

Any retching, gagging, lip licking or vomiting?

Any drooling, pawing at her mouth or crunching her teeth?

Is she drinking normally?

Are her gums pink or pale/white? Moist or sticky?

If you press on her belly, does she have any discomfort, tenderness, or tensing?

Could she have eaten something she should not have (ie bones, toys, rocks, plants, chemicals, etc)?
