im pretty sure he has drunk contaminated water when he was a kitten, I only say that because I also got really sick from it to. his symptoms are : very stiff back legs , doesn't jump at all, off balance, falls over easily takes him a long time to get up , he is always thirsty, drools , and his claws do not retract.

He may well have been intoxicated as a kitten but polydipsia (increased thirst) in a 12 year old is worrisome for chronic renal and hepatic insufficiency, urinary tract infection involving the kidneys, diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus (rare), Addison's disease (rare), Cushing's disease (rare), and electrolyte (sodium, potassium, calcium) imbalances. If any of these disorders worsen, his brain can become affected and cause the ataxia ("drunken sailor") you're seeing. His vet will want to perform a thorough physical exam including blood and urine tests and should be able to tell you why your cat has become so symptomatic within 24 hours.
