Hellomy parson dog Elle 11 years had hysterectomy 11 juli 2015 after 1

Customer Question

my parson dog Elle 11 years had hysterectomy 11 juli 2015 after 1 week of abnormal vaginal bleeding during heat. Found adenocarcinoma of R ovary and ascitis rel to peritoneum and sign of metastasis in the peritoneum. No spread to other organs. Bloodcount normal.
She is otherwise a healthy dog. Is it worthwhile to try chemo on her? Intraperitoneal?
How long can one extend her lift with this?
Yours sincerely

Aloha! You're speaking with Dr. Michael Salkin
I'm sorry to hear of this with Elle. Chemotherapy might be considered when there's evidence of metastasis in the peritoneal cavity. Cisplatin or cyclophosphamide plus chlorambucil plus nitrosourea have been used for treating metastatic carcinomas in a few dogs, resulting in a median 9-month survival. Additional chemotherapeutics that can be considered include doxorubicin, carboplatin, and 5-fluorouracil. Because an effusion was present, intracavitary chemotherapy may be indicated. Consultation with an oncologist is recommended.
