I apologize that no one has responded to your question sooner. Different experts come online at various times. I just came online and saw your question. My name is ***** ***** I’m a biologist with a special interest in canine cancer. I'm sorry to hear of your dog's diagnosis.

A bone affected by osteosarcoma can break at any time, with very little pressure. However, many dog owners who choose not to have an amputation or do chemo, have used braces to provide some support. The support can prevent a fracture for awhile, but eventually, the bone often disintegrates. At that point, it will not support any weight, and it will not heal. So, to answer your question, a brace can help for awhile. You'll also want to get a prescription pain medication from your vet because osteosarcoma is very painful, even without a broken bone.

If you decide to go with a brace, this company will consult with you to determine the best type before you buy:

If you have more questions, let me know in a REPLY. I'm hope you'll be able to maintain your dog pain-free for quite some time.
