Welcome to JustAnswer! I am a licensed veterinarian and specialist and will do my best to assist you today!

Ideally it would be a good idea to see your veterinarain.

We can often see this with an allergy, but also a skin infection.

If there is just a local area - you may be able to treat it by washing the area with an antibacterial product - an example would be chlorhexidine scrub (which you can get over the counter at pharmacy - (EXAMPLE HERE)

If there is continued licking at the area, getting an e-collar from the pet store is also common to prevent further self-trauma. The E-collar should be used until the skin is healed which may take 7-10 days.

Once cleaned, some veterinarians also use certain sprays such as gentocin or even topical neosporin. - Animax can be considered as well. (

With that said - there are times when topical products are not enough, and systemic antibiotics are considered. Common antibiotics for these cases include:
- Clavamox (LINK HERE)
- Cephalexin (LINK HERE)
