Hi. If you can please give me more information as requested above so I can better understand the situation and help. Thanks.

Sorry about this last post. Everything seemed to clear up but now the loose stools are back. My dog is an 8 yr old male lab. I have not changed his food and he has not gotten into anything. He doesn't seem to be uncomfortable and there doesn't seem to be anything else wrong with him.

Should I be concerned or is this normal?

Expert:  Dr. Lee replied 7 years ago.

Thanks for the info.

With the loose stool, I would be concerned about intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion leading to GI flora upset, or internal organ problems such as liver, pancreas, intestine, or kidney. Since he is doing well right now, I would suggest to consider at least getting a fecal sample analysis done to make sure there is no parasite. If it comes back normal, then your vet can get him some antibiotic (metronidazole) to help with the loose stool. If going to the vet is not possible, then you can try giving him homemade chicken and rice, 3 parts rice, 1 part chicken, for the next few days. If by doing so, the loose stool is not resolved, then he will need to go see your vet at that time.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks.
