my chinchilla was eating a treat when I do believe she started to choke she made an abrupt churrp and then the treat started oozing out of her nose she seems to be ok other then her breath is a little odd and she keeps scratching at her nose what should I do
Hello, I'm Dr. Bob.
She may have gotten some of the treat up her nose from the back of her throat.
This material can cause a problem, acting as a site for infection.
I would recommend using saline drops - contact lens saline is fine, if you have it, or you can make saline with one cup of warm water and two teaspoonfuls of kosher or sea salt. Ten drops in each nostril three times a day for two days should be sufficient to flush it back into her throat. Be patient and take you time, letting her swallow the saline flush, not causing her to choke on it.
If you see pus or blood coming from her nose, or if she shows signs of difficulty in breathing, a trip to your veterinarian is in order, as an antibiotic may be necessary.
If you should have further questions, please let me know.
