she is still nursing and is having difficulty walking, she was just laying there and shaking and wouldnt move but is now trying to walk around, i can not take a rectal temp
Veterinarian: Dr. Peter, Veterinarian replied 8 years ago

The symptoms she is exhibiting could be consistent with hypocalcemia (low calcium) from the demand of calcium in her body caused by lactation. This is a very serious condition and can sometimes be fatal if untreated. It is best that you have her checked by your veterinarian and she gets a blood test to confirm and then treated via IV and monitor. The puppies need to be wean off her immediately. If you do not have access to a veterinarian you can give calcium gluconate (lactate or carbonate) orally at a dose of 80mg/kg a day.

If you have additional questions I will be glad to answer them.
