Customer Question
Hi My cat smokey was...
Hi
My cat smokey was diagnosed with crf last week, he hasnt eaten since monday around 2pm, after he retired to our bed where he has been since, he hasnt got up at all, he is just lay there sleeping altering his position every few hours, he is slavering quite a bit and it smells. Is there anything I could do to help him. Can you give me an idea of how long he has. He still is responding to me when I go up to see him, just a little meow and a short purring.
The vet did give us Fortekor flavour 5 he has had these one a day since friday, shall I continue with them.
We had him vaccinated just over 2 weeks ago for Feline aids and Flu. Could this have caused this reaction with his kidneys, or at least made things worse. ? Regards Christine

Hi there

Your baby should be on IV fluids for at least 2-3 days to help him out and bring down the kidney values. After this he should be getting subQ fluid at home twice weekly-your vet can show you how to do this. I would also consider feeding A/d a food from hill's to help jump[p start his appetite. There are appetite stimulants that can be used as well. We need to get him eating or he will not do well. Pepcid can be used to help with nausea-what does your baby weigh? Dr. Jenn

The vet gave us Kd food but he wont eat anything now or drink.
Veterinarian: Dr. Jenn, Veterinarian replied 8 years ago

The k/d will have to wait until we get this baby eating. Try the a/d, or even tuna for a few days if needed. He needs to be started on fluids ASAP!
