My 9 yr old Female dog keeps licking herself and urinating

Resolved Question:

My 9 yr old Female dog keeps licking herself and urinating and it smells strong. She has not had problems urinating in the house before. What could be the problem?

Increased frequency of urination is common in female dogs with UTI's (urinary tract infections). The urethra in females is quite short so bacteria can move up it into the bladder easier than in male dogs. I would get her seen and get a urinalysis run to look for white blood cells and bacteria- if present then antibiotics for 7-10 days should do the trick.

Other differentials for this are bladder stones, bladder tumors or underlying metabolic disease if increased drinking and increased volume of urine produced.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
