I have currently been wearing...

I have currently been wearing a catheter for over a month after suddenly being unable to pee after a bladder installation for possible interstitial cystitis. When I use a catheter plug instead of the bag, i find myself having to use the restroom more frequently, like every 30 minutes. And when I can’t find a restroom in time, little drops of pee will leak from the catheter and soil my pants, almost like I’m incontinent ? I have had bladder scans and a EMG on my bladder which showed under active bladder. I have been cathed 8 times in the past month because every time I do the voiding trial at the office, I can’t void. .. the pain is excruciating when I get cathed, so bad I was screaming/crying in the office and started hyperventaling because of the pain. I have a cystoscopy on March 23rd to find out what’s going on. My question is, what could possibly be the root cause? They suspected IC at first but the retention I think is throwing them off,so I was put on flomax and currently have bladder spasms which are very painful after I empty my urine when using the plug. What in the world do you think could be going on? I’ve been at this a month and my drs are stumped.

I am a 21 year old female. She
Told me it showed I had an under-active bladder and that she could see whenever she was done filling up my bladder and it was time to void that my bladder looked like it was “trying” I think she said it had the pattern of a saw? And they called it something. As far as I know, nothing for the spams because they just started when I change to the plug and have to empty. I haven’t been back to see my dr since to let her know I’m having more frequent spasms.

The bladder spasms are the likely culprit. So when you use a catheter plus even a small amount of urine induces bladder contraction/spasm and that voids the urine from the side of the catheter. You may ask your doctor to prescribe Diazepam 2 mg twice or thrice a day which will resolve the bladder spasms.

You should get a urine culture, meanwhile (if not done in the last two weeks). An infection of the bladder can be responsible for bladder hyperactivity/spasms.

A urine culture test substantiates the infection, gives you the best antibiotic to treat and eradicate the infection and prevent its recurrence.

Treating a bladder infection/UTI without a culture test is like going into the sea without navigation help.
