Customer Question
I have been diagnosed...

I have been diagnosed with Stage II prostate cancer. My PSA is 7.3 at last test, rising steadily over the past 2-3 years. Of the 12 prostate sectors, 7 are normal, 4 exhibit Gleason-6 cancers and one sector is defined as Gleason-8. Pelvic MRI and a bone scan show no cancer excursion beyond the prostate. Physical exam and ultrasound show nodularity on right side of prostate. My urologist recommends four (4)Lupron injections every 6 months over 18 months, to start shortly before 9 weeks of IMRT. He predicts a successful treatment. He recommends against any type of brachytherapy. Questions:

Doctor's Assistant: Is the condition chronic, or acute?

I don't understand your question - it is neither "chronic" nor "acute" to my sense of self, aside from some discomfort when initiating urination and a reduction in stream size and sense of voiding completely. I'd like to ask my specific questions, as I am on the threshold of a treatment decision.

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

I am on several meds for hypertension (usually 130/70 at rest), and I have mild diabetes (Metformin 500 mg 2xD). I am 6'-2" tall, 197 lbs this morning, and am in generally good health. I am told I don't look my 77 years, and I still ski.
