I have 1 3 cm stone in the pelvis of my left kidney. Why

Customer Question

I have 1 3 cm stone in the pelvis of my left kidney. Why can't they just open me up, take it out and sew me back up . The ureterscopy surgery theywant todo takes 3 0r 4 times to get it all.
JA: Is the condition chronic, or acute?
Customer: Dr, says its abeen there for years but I am just now having symptoms. Back pain and blood in urine. Actually I'm no longer having those symptoms so I'm delaying surgery.
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: I also have copd and I'm 80 years old. Very active 80.

Hello and welcome. I'm Dr Chip

If the stone isn't causing you any problems I really see no reason to treat itl

The alternative to any surgery would be lithotripsy--ultra high frequency ultrasound--to pulverize the stone, so you should at least ask about that option.
