Hi,

Thanks for this question. Actually detection of alcohol in the blood stream and urine depends on the type of the test being performed.

1) Urine - there are two major tests which are done to detect alcohol in the urine. The normal UA detection test can detect alcohol usage in the past 9-12 hours in 90% of the cases and upto 24 hours in 10% of the cases. However if a EtG test is performed, it can detect alcohol usage in the past 80 hours.

2) Blood - usually the normal blood test can detect alcohol usage for upto 24 hours after your last drink

Also they can run a saliva test to check for ethyl glucunoride which can detect traces of alcohol in your saliva for upto 12 days after your last drink. But the commonest tests run to detect alcohol use are the normal UA test and the urine EtG test.
