Customer Question

I received the results of my blood test and the rbc was noted high at 7.6. The doctor didn't say any thing about,it. I am diabetic. I have a cyst on each kidney thought not to be serious. I,m worried. I have been taking victoza for about a year. I feel that something is wrong, but I don't know how to follow up. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

Welcome to Justanswer website.

Myself Dr Josh and I’m happy to help with your question today

Well, for a healthy person, range for RBC count is-

  • male – 4.7 to 6.1 million cells per microlitre (cells/mcL)
  • female – 4.2 to 5.4 million cells/mcL

You have a value of 7.6, which is high and should be further investigated by your doctor.

Possible reasons for such high RBC count are-

1. Cigarette smoking.

2. Dehydration.

3. Low blood oxygen level (hypoxia).

4. Bone marrow disease.

5. Pulmonary fibrosis.

A thorough clinical examination and detailed evaluation can be done.

A repeat test after 3 months should be considered.

Please consult your doctor for further clinical checkup.

Hope this helped

I already knew this, but I'm still scared. What would be a clinical check- up include. I'm scheduled to go away. Should I cancel. Why would this be over looked by my physicians? It sounds serious. I've had kidney stones before. You didn't address the victoza possible correlation.
