Why do I have red shiny sensitive skin on the penis shaft?

Customer Question

I had some red and sensitive skin on my penis (shaft, not head). The skin looked shiny and red, and after a few days it became hard and dry with lots of dry hard skin on top. Then the extra skin fell off after 2 days (and a lot of moisturizer), and now it looks normal again, except for a tiny cut like thing. That might have been a crack from the dry skin. The cut doesn't hurt.

Dr Jones :

From symptoms and picture, it looks fungal infection

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Ok, how could I treat that? Hydrocortisone?

Dr Jones :

You can try antifungal creams. I will list few of them for you.

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Ok, would this affect my partner?

Dr Jones :

Many antifungal creams can clear the condition in around two weeks. Examples of such preparations include those that contain clotrimazole (Cruex cream, Desenex cream, Lotrimin cream, lotion, and solution), miconazole (Monistat-Derm cream), ketoconazole (Nizoral cream), econazole (Spectazole), naftifine (Naftin), and terbinafine (Lamisil cream and solution). Any one cream can be used.

Rarely systemic treatment may be needed with antifungal tablet like griseofulvin (Fulvicin, Grifulvin, and Gris-PEG).

Minimizing sweat and moisture can help prevent fungal infections.

<span style="font-size: 1em;line-height: 1em;"Customer:

Would that affect my partner?

Dr Jones :

Fungal infections are opportunist infections and everybody is exposed to such fungi. But only in favorable conditions you get it. Your partner is not likely to get affected.
