Hi Tony, I have a client which is an unincorporated charity as a local orchestral society and they rehearse weekly & put on concerts. They have formed a limited company to be a production company for their concerts and I have been looking at Orchestra Tax Relief and trying to understand where / how this goes in the Corporation Tax Return or how the expenses should be displayed and how they claim their rebate from HMRC? Please can you advise in practical terms. Thanks, CAS

Hello, I am one of the experts on Just Answer and pleased to be able to help you with your question.

The relief claim must be submitted to HMRC as part of the company tax return. This may involve charitable companies, which have not previously had to file a tax return, completing a company tax return with charitable pages [CT600E].

I do hope that you have found my reply of assistance.

Please would / could you advise where to claim relief on the Corporation Tax Return in practical terms - I.e. is there a particular part of the Limited Company’s Corporation Tax Return where you can say it is Orchestra Tax Relief they wish to claim? I don’t see it on the Tax Software I have and I wonder just exactly how / where it is shown? I suppose this is a practical question. Thanks, CAS

The Charities Commission refers to the CT600E. Unfortunately, this form is for shipping movements!

I would be inclined to deduct the relief from the profit when you make the return and add a note to this effect.
