If you wish to pay national Insurance whilst abroad (and this is purely voluntary) then you arrange to pay Class 3 voluntary contributions and I have added a link here how to proceed with this.

There are no allowable expenses you can claim against this employment abroad, as you took this knowing the conditions, with both the work and employer being situated abroad, and if the employer was in the UK, and they had sent you abroad, then expenses would be permitted,a s this would be deemed to be business travel and therefore the expenses incurred would be permitted (if not reimbursed or covered by the UK employer) I am sorry the news is not more favourable.
