AS you did not make an election within 2 years of the purchase of the second property - the Main residence in Dundee will be deemed to be you main residence according to your information with a capital gain arising on the sale of the apartment in Aberdeen, but there may be scope to argue that as more time was spent in Aberdeen - that this in fact was your main residence, in the absence of you making an election

Its really a case of where all your main personal aspects of life were conducted from, such as doctors, DVLA license, where most of your personal possessions were - and I was expect there could be an answer that states both properties were equally used as "home"

In the absence of an election having been made - HMRC determine the position, so my advise is to write to HMRC and advise them of the position - giving them as much information as possible as to the lifestyles - the commitments and the registered services (additional things like cable TV etc) and where your personal possessions, doctors, dentists, passport, driving licence were registered from.

If, however you are happy to accept that Aberdeen was never viewed as your residence then the gain will be the sale price less the purchase price - less the legal costs to buy and sell and the cost of any major repairs/renovations.
With this figure determined - the first £10,100 is capital gain free, as your annual exemption for the year, with the final balance being liable at 18%
