If I own my house but it stands on leasehold land. Who owns

Who owns the property when the leasehold interest expires?

The leasehold interest would revert to the freeholder on expiry of the lease.

I hope that helps.

Hi Claire
Sorry if I am being a bit 'thick' but does this mean that the owner of the freehold acquires legal ownership of my house for 'free'?
That would be the scenario.

In reality that is unlikely to happen as the lease would be renewed years before that happened. If it's a leasehold house, as you suggest, then you may wish to consider purchasing the freehold as usually the cost would not be excessive.
