Hi I have a Worcester Greenstar Heatslave Boiler with a water leak. It has a Greenstar filter system. How can I turn off the water to the boiler without turning off the main supply Its Easter and no Engineer available.

Contractor's Assistant: How long has this been going on? And how severe is the problem?

Discovered &pm last night, So turned off the mains then . Small but continuous spray leak from the front area, just under control panel to right of what I think is the heat exchanger.

Contractor's Assistant: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?

No this is a new boiler 11 months old will have to get an engineer asap

Contractor's Assistant: Anything else we should know to help you best?

Dont think so just want to stop the leak until Tuesday and still have water for the house.

Hi Morgan,

It rather depends where the leak is, if its on the pressurised heating system for central heating, there will be 1 bar of pressure so a fair bit of water already in the system which will be leaking out, if is fresh water (ie the hot water side) which is leaking look under the boiler you will see the cold water feed coming into the boiler with an isolator valve you can switch off.

If you can determine where the leak is coming from, or take some pictures of the pipe work under the boiler I can better direct you with regard to bleeding the heating system to stop it leaking or shutting off the cold water inlet for hot water.

Thank you James, after reading your reply I decided to look for the isolater valve on the cold water feed. I found it with the help of the manual and turned it off. This did the trick, had to call out Worcester Bosch anyway as the unit is under 12 months old. Amazingly The installers had fitted the unit with a non return valve on the water inlet, so every time the water got hot and expanded there was no place for that expansion to go. It eventually blew a joint with a large washer in it, that came out totally chewed up. Very cross with the installers needless to say.
