Have a Potterton Puma 80 with permanent pilot. Runs OK but

Customer Question

Have a Potterton Puma 80 with permanent pilot. Runs OK but does not light up in the morning - pilot apparently out. Relights OK and runs all day then repeats failure to light next morning - any ideas? D. Henderson
JA: I'll do all I can to help. How long have you been dealing with this?
Customer: Just started in the last week. Has occurred now and then in the past but only as a one off.
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: Yes - retired mech eng.
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: Looking at the pilot think that part of the flame is lifting off as though the pressure is too high - was looking for a replacement pilot set up - but might be hard to find

If the pilot is lifting then there may not be enough air and could need cleaning.

Have you tried replacing the thermocouple?
