Customer Question

Hi Have a worcester greenstar 30cdi boiler that appears to be working ok but not talking to my room stat as heating staying on even when programmed to be off. Also hot water not heating up now. Worked fine in summer when just neede hot water but since turned CH on won't work properly. All lights on timer on wall ok and room thermostat clicking. Is it likely to be motorised valve?
JA: How long has this been going on? And how severe is the problem?
Customer: Am currently heating hot water on economy 7 immersion and heating regulating temperature by gauge on boiler.
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: If it is motorised valve problem then yes as neighbour is electrician
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: no

Can you shut off the power and tell me if the lever on the side of the valve is slack or stiff?

Good morning AndrewI am at work so obviously cannot check - what should it be?
If I set it to manual not auto will it work? Also I have another valve further in the pipework (different sort though) - should I set that to manual also?
Expert:  Andrew Smith replied 9 months ago.

set to auto it should open and close by itself.

open when slack, tight when closed.

if you latch it open manually then the valve will be open but it will not be making the electrical connection also via the microswitch

would you think the motorised valve needs replacing Andrew

Are you able to see if it moves if you turn the hot water and heating on?
