Customer Question

I have hot water being forced back up the feed pipe from the central heating expansion tank in the loft. The water is not entering through the tank from the ball valve as I have isolated this line. If I shut off the valve on the cold line feed to the copper tank it stops it being pushed back into the expansion tank. Do you think there could be a break / hole in the coil in the cylinder?

if the cold water storage cistern is higher than the central heating feed tank then yes the cylinder coil is bad, I assume you noticed this because the overflow was discharging, Rick
